Students from various Primary and Secondary Schools are amongst those who were awarded cash prizes following their win in BSP Life PNG’s ‘Insurance Awareness Day’- Essay Competition. A total of 15 winners were selected from the three categories of the competition; Primary, Secondary and Open (Public).
The top prize winner from the Primary Category (Grades 4 -8), Joe Dylan Joe, from Saint John’s Primary School in Port Moresby was awarded K1, 000 cash. In the Secondary Category (Grades 9 -12), Tokarara Secondary student Reilian Poriei, was awarded the 1st prize of K1,500 cash while Shane Pamuan, took out the 1st prize of K2,000 cash in the Open (Public) category. Four other winners were also selected from each of the three categories and announced on 30th June 2025.
The participants each submitted an essay in line with their category’s topic. The Primary school students were asked to explain how a BSP Life Insurance Policy can help them and their family in future. The Secondary school students were tasked to outline how they can help promote life insurance and encourage savings culture within their communities, whilst those under the open category, were required to expand on how market segmentation can be used to increase the uptake of life insurance across Papua New Guinea.

All essay submissions were reviewed by BSP Life Staff members and marked by independent markers, mostly teachers who used set criteria to determine the winners.
BSP Life PNG, Country Manager – Nilson Singh said, “Congratulations to our winners and thank you to all who have participated in the Essay Competition this year. The purpose of this competition predominantly, is to create awareness around Life Insurance in conjunction with the International Insurance Awareness Day which falls on 28th June every year. Our aim is to drive the message that life insurance is important and is beneficial to every day Papua New Guineans. It enables individuals and their families’ to have financial protection long-term.
“The competition is also a great avenue for us to engage with our young Papua New Guineans and adults alike, to encourage them to do research and educate themselves about Life Insurance so they can in turn, create awareness and educate their communities about the importance of Life Insurance in Papua New Guinea”, Mr. Singh continued.
The BSP Life Essay Competition was launched on 26th May 2025 and ran through 20th June 2025. All winners of the competition were announced on social media and in press from 30th June 2025.
