Operations Manager
About the Role:
This role reports directly to the Country Manager and is based in Port Moresby. The successful incumbent will be responsible to manage the operations function of the business which includes Underwriting, Claims, Premium Management and Customer Service. This role is also responsible to oversee improvement of operational related internal controls and processes, in compliance with all BSP Life PNG’s policies and procedures and industry legislative requirements.
Key Deliverables:
- Lead Underwriting, Claims, Customer Service, and Premium Management teams.
- Oversee claims assessment, minimize outstanding claims, manage premium receipting, and ensure accurate standing orders.
- Minimize policy arrears and lapses; drive timely policy conversion.
- Prepare accurate monthly management reports and quarterly Board reports.
- Develop, review, and implement operational policies to enhance efficiency.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and ensure operational alignment with Finance.
- Assist Sales Managers and maintain strong client relationships.
- Set goals, monitor team performance, and coordinate staff training.
- Lead small to medium-sized operational projects.
- Support core insurance systems and cultivate a service excellence culture.
- Contribute to BSP Life PNG’s strategic goals.
Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills & Experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Business Management, Commerce, Accounting or related field is preferred with at least 5 years of Management experience, preferably in the Insurance industry.
- Sound knowledge of Life Insurance service, operational and administration functions, products, policies and procedures, including underwriting and claims management.
- Strong business acumen with sound understanding of service management principles.
- Target oriented with ability to perform well under deadlines and in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent people management and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal teams, external stakeholders and customers.
- Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and compliance requirements specific to life insurance underwriting, and PNG insurance regulations.
- Sound judgment and decision-making abilities, with a focus on balancing risk assessment, policy coverage, and business objectives.
